6 Tips For Being Active Outdoors

As the days are getting warmer and summer is just around the corner, we hope you’re finding time to enjoy more outdoor activities and exercise. While you bask in the sun, be sure to take the proper steps to protect your body from the elements.

Here are 6 important tips to consider when you’re being active outdoors:

  • Pick the right time of day before you go out. Unless you are training for a particular event that takes place in the daytime heat, avoid exercising in the hottest part of the day from 10 am to 3pm. Generally, the early morning is the best time to workout. Plus, it will get your metabolism moving for the rest of the day!

  • Sunscreen is very important. Use a high SPF that will protect your skin. Even cloudy days can give you a sunburn!

  • Stay hydrated. Summer can take a lot out of you when you’re outside, so it’s important to stay hydrated. Before you go out and get started, drink a glass or two of water. Carry a bottle of water, electrolyte sports drink, or even a hydration pack wherever you go. Take a drink roughly every 15 minutes, even when you’re not thirsty. When you’re done with your workout, have a few more glasses of water to help you cool off.

  • Figure out where you can work out in the shade. Trails and paths are typically shaded and can provide an intense workout at the same time. Pools can offer a great workout as well!

  • Wear loose, light-colored clothing. The lighter colors will help reflect heat, and cotton material will help the evaporation of sweat as you work out.

  • Listen to what your body is telling you. This one is so very important. If you start to feel dizzy, nauseous or lightheaded, take a break! Sit down and have a drink of water.

Thanks for reading and we hope you enjoy your time outside!
